The Construction team is an integral part of the transformation and provides expertise, and drives change to achieve maximum commercial value, ensuring our property portfolio is fit for purpose to support the operation.


To support the construction strategy, we have a vacancy for a Cost and Data Manager to provide quality cost advice to ensure Royal Mail's construction activity is delivered for the best value through the collection, evaluation and distribution of cost data.


The role

As the Cost and Data Manager, you’ll play a vital part within the team which appoints and oversees the performance of the supply chain in line with standards and policies. Reporting to the Construction Commercial Manager, you’ll ensure Royal Mail's property estate is developed by competent and appropriately priced partners, cost data is available to plan spend effectively, and all tendering processes are compliant.


Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain cost control systems and procedures.
  • Work with the Network teams to understand how the supply chain needs to deliver the capital investment plan.
  • Evaluate and provide data to the Construction Commercial Manager and planning teams to highlight any supply chain constraints and support the creation of construction solutions.
  • Collate, evaluate and present data for construction cost issues, ensuring the data is of the highest quality with regard to cost, quality, H&S and location of the supply chain.
  • Support the Construction Commercial Manager in building high quality relationships that optimise prices and the quality of solutions.
  • Assist in overseeing supply chain performance, working closely with the Construction Commercial Manager and PMs to ensure projects and commodities are being delivered to the contracted costs and standards.
  • Assist in oversight of all tender processes, collate, and evaluate tender data to ensure best value for money, and appropriate scopes/briefs.
  • Create, maintain a cost database, provide cost monitoring at total development and segment levels, enabling effective cost forecasting.


Location: Nationwide with UK travel, frequent/weekly attendance at 185 Farringdon Road, London.


About you

You need to demonstrate the following skills and experience on your CV:

  • Relevant cost and data experience, from a commercially focused property and construction sector (essential requirement)
  • A proven track record of delivery of property works (building fabric, M&E or estate).
  • Excellent communication, presentation skills and experience of managing multiple internal stakeholders.
  • A good understanding of the principals and frameworks for successful commercial management and project delivery within a fast-paced business environment.
  • Problem solving skills with the ability to analyse data and present in a clear and concise manner.
  • Experience in cost management, financial analysis, and data management. Demonstrable experience of preparing and managing budgets.
  • Strong IT aptitude, especially data management, presentation and query tools.
  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent.
