Join Sheffield Children's as a Corporate Accountant, providing high-quality financial advisory services to Care group management teams on support services, corporate budgets, and financial strategy.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Head of Financial Management, your responsibilities will include:

  • Work with other Finance colleagues within the department, daily management of a designated junior member(s) of the management accounting team.
  • Advise the Care Group on the possible effects of financial strategy and policy. Advise on all business and financial management issues within the context of delivering financial goals.
  • Lead on the annual financial planning process for the Care Group within the Trust financial framework. Provision of comprehensive financial support to develop, implement and monitor Care Group business plans.
  • Monthly reporting of Care Group financial position and production of forecast year-end performance. Advise Care Group management team of necessary actions to achieve the financial plan.
  • Lead on all financial aspects in the development of business cases with service managers, applying appropriate financial appraisal techniques to both capital and revenue projects.
  • Engage with Care Group management team to identify efficiency/productivity opportunities and to develop plans to achieve the target set.

Experience Essential

  • Experience of working in a financial management function in a large and complex organisation
  • Experience with using different accounting software
  • Experience in preparing and analysing financial reports, budgets and forecasts
  • Experience of leading a team

  • Experience of working with and advising senior leaders
  • Experience of liaising and working with Commissioners / NHSE

Knowledge and Skills Essential

  • Highly numerate with strong analytical and critical reasoning skills
  • A wide and specialist knowledge of financial and accounting procedures.
  • Ability to provide advice and guidance on the principles of budgetary control and reporting and explain complex information to non-specialists.
  • Ability to manage an extensive and complex workload efficiently
  • Effective and strong financial management and financial planning skills
  • Negotiating and influencing skills with the ability to problem solve
  • Ability to deal confidently and diplomatically with colleagues at all levels.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and make decisions relating to non-routine tasks without seeking approval from managers

  • Knowledge of current key NHSE policies and priorities and their impact on role/Trust.
  • A clear understanding of the financial regime within the NHS and be able to articulate them to non-financial colleagues
