Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a wordsmith Content Editor who will be an important member of our communications team, delivering high-quality content across all aspects of Our Future Health. Think invite letters that land on doorsteps, posters that grab attention on the street, and emails that seek to further engage existing volunteers. Our words help people understand what we do, encourage participation, and increase volunteer engagement.

Our Future Health will be the UK's largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent, and treat diseases. We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.

What you'll be doing:

This is a cross-cutting role, working with colleagues across the organisation in our product, public engagement, operations and science teams to understand the needs of our audiences and convert those insights into compelling content. Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Write clear, intuitive and compelling copy for our websites, information resources, print collateral, social media accounts, email campaigns, blogs, brochures, newsletters and more.
  • Work in tandem with our Brand Designer to produce eye-catching and on-message visuals, such as posters and invite letters.
  • Contribute to new recruitment and engagement opportunities across our public and researcher audiences.
  • Be a ‘word ninja', ready to turn your mind to any copy-writing or content marketing task, however big or small.
  • Be a guardian of our brand across all channels, supporting the rest of the organisation to speak and write with consistency of tone and phrase.
  • Undertake horizon scanning to create well-informed and inspiring content.
  • Collaborate with the wider communications team to support the long-term brand strategy.
  • Help to manage external creative suppliers.
Requirements

You'll have a deep understanding of what works for the public, and you'll know how to write accurate and compelling content that drives action. To succeed in this role, you will also have some of the following skills:

  • Writing and editing high-quality content for online and offline channels, ideally with experience within the world of health or research.
  • Ability to think with a commercial mindset, to produce content that engages as many people as possible.
  • Experience of working with user research teams.
  • Be a competent user of CMS tools such as WordPress.
  • Close eye to detail and design appreciation, with the ability to spot a typo at 100 paces (or in 100 milliseconds).
  • Excellent project management skills that allow you to manage work to high standards, tight deadlines and ensure value for money in all content investment.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects across multiple teams.
  • Ability to create content with usability, accessibility, user/customer experience, SEO and plain English principles in mind.
  • Experience of working in both social good and commercial contexts is advantageous.
  • Writing engaging content about technical topics to non-technical audiences, ideally health or science-based would be advantageous.
  • Basic HTML knowledge is desirable.
Benefits

  • £45,000 per annum basic salary.
  • Generous Pension Scheme - We invest in your future with employer contributions of up to 12%.
  • 30 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays - Enjoy a generous holiday allowance with the flexibility to take bank holidays when it suits you.
  • Enhanced Parental Leave - Supporting you during life's biggest moments.
  • Career Growth & Development - £500 per year to spend on Learnerbly, our learning platform, plus regular appraisals and development opportunities.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme - Save 25-39% on a new bike and accessories through salary sacrifice.
  • Home & Tech Savings - Get up to 8% off on IKEA and Currys products, spreading the cost over 12 months through salary sacrifice.
  • £1,000 Employee Referral Bonus - Know someone amazing? Get rewarded for bringing them on board!
  • Wellbeing Support - Access to Mental Health First Aiders, plus 24/7 online GP services and an Employee Assistance Programme for you and your family.
  • A Great Place to Work - We have a lovely Central London office in Holborn, and offer flexible and remote working arrangements.
Join us - let's prevent disease together.
