The team
Our News team delivers high quality and trustworthy content across television, online and ITVX that regularly attracts audiences in excess of 3.5 million viewers. It's a fast moving environment with a huge variety of roles and challenges on offer. We operate in 11 main news production centres across England, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Channel Islands. We also have a Political Unit based in the heart of Westminster. And finally, we produce a range of current affairs & factual programming out of ITV Wales, UTV and ITV Border.
The role
We are looking for an experienced and multi-skilled Content Editor to join our digital and broadcast news team at ITV News West Country.
We are a multi-platform operation and, as our Digital Lead, you will oversee our online presence through the ITV West Country regional rail on ITVX, our website and on our social media channels, looking for opportunities to drive digital innovation.
The role is not solely digital and so you will also have experience of at least one of the following: news editing, planning/commissioning content and producing for news programmes and digital output. You will strive for bold and creative production and enjoy working as part of a team - essential skills in broadcast and digital news. You will thrive with a demanding and changing workload, meeting tight deadlines and staying calm and approachable under pressure.
You will be brimming with ideas for original stories relevant to our richly varied region and you will be passionate about producing content that enhances our reputation and engages our audience. You'll know exactly how to motivate others to ensure our output on ITVX and other platforms reflects and celebrates the West Country in a creative and compelling way. You will also have a clear vision about multi-platform commissioning and storytelling, to drive collaborative working.
This is an opportunity for an experienced journalist who wishes to gain further experience as a line manager, leader and decision-maker on our news desk, supporting our Head of News and playing a proactive part in the management team. Experience of line management is desirable but not essential.
You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to foster and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and external contacts. You will have excellent editorial judgement and you'll know what gets the West Country talking. You will have qualified in media law and have a thorough understanding of the Ofcom Code.

ITV is the biggest commercial television network in the UK. Which means we offer some of the biggest career opportunities in the industry.
We love telly, we’re passionate about content, and most importantly we understand our audiences. Thanks to an impressive 60-year history, our leadership is stronger than ever. And with the right people on board, we’re about to take our business – and broadcasting as we know it – to a whole new level.
We’ve also got the kind of inclusive working environment where you’ll never stop learning. One that’s at the heart of popular culture, that’s passionate about new tech, that has a truly international reach, and is incredibly focused on developing our teams; individuals and on the diversity of our workforce as a whole.
In other words, it’s somewhere that everyone can thrive.
We’re 60 years of TV history - and we’re also its future. Which means there’s never been a more exciting time to join us.
It’s just a natural part of what we do.
It’s your talent that really matters and we want you to be the best you can be. So, our aim is to make sure our workforce reflects the diversity of modern society, which is why we promise to treat you with fairness and respect, whatever your age, gender, disability status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, ethnicity or marriage/civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity status and family circumstances.
As members of the Creative Diversity Network (CDN), we’ve made a public commitment to improve representation of society on screen, and to become more diverse and inclusive behind the scenes too. Our work under ITV’s Social Partnership underpins our commitment across programme making and production for better representation. At the end of the day we want our workforce to represent the audience it serves. It’s a pretty big goal, but one that we get closer to all the time.
If you need to discuss an alternative way to submit your application, we’ll always try to meet your individual needs wherever possible. To find out more, you can email us direct at talkingcareers@itv.com.
