Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive Consultant Urologist at Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board, which is situated in the three Country Boroughs of Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil and Rhondda Cynon Taf. The successful candidates will be based in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is one of the largest Health Boards in Wales and was formed in 2019. It is situated near the vibrant cities of Cardiff, Swansea and Bristol and is enriched with magnificent scenery including beautiful beaches and the stunning Brecon Beacons national park. Welsh history, culture, music and of course rugby lie at the heart of the Health Board.

At Cwm Taf Morgannwg we believe in innovation to make improvements to clinical care and we are especially proud to be hosting the development of a new Welsh-Government-funded facility diagnostic and treatment centre for South East Wales, which will be located in Llantrisant, Rhondda Cynon Taf. The aim is to develop regional working between Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and improve care and access to services by delivering accessible, safe and innovative services.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will support an expanding clinical workforce over three of the boroughs, based at Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Llantrisant and covering clinical services at Prince Charles in Merthyr Tydfil and Princess of Wales in Bridgend.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide general/core urological services and have a commitment to a 1:8 on-call rota with a service desire to reach a 1:10.

The post holder will be trained in general urology and will be encouraged to develop a subspecialist interest to complement the wider department. The department has a strong record with stone surgery, upper tract laparoscopic surgery, paediatric urology and tertiary referral andrology and penile cancer. We treat more urological malignancies than any other Health Board in Wales and have strong links with our tertiary referral centre via supraregional MDTs.

We welcome the successful applicants to join our team of 8 consultant colleagues. We take our staff development seriously and we very much support and encourage the successful candidate to flourish and progress their time with us in a sub specialty of their choice.

Urology Services at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board have a bright future ahead of them and you are invited to be part of that, to help shape and design how the services look in the future.

Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Interview date 17th June 2025.
