We are looking to appoint to a whole time Consultant Radiologist with a specialist interest in Diagnostic Neuroradiology within the Medical Imaging and Medical Physics Directorate of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Royal Hallamshire and Northern General Hospitals.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues be responsible for the provision of adult and paediatric neuroradiology.

The successful candidate will work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the team in order to provide a high quality, comprehensive service within this teaching hospital environment.

The successful candidate will work according to the term and conditions of the national consultant contract.

The allocation of time between the various duties of the post will be open to some adjustment in consultation with Consultant colleagues and the employing Trust.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Name on the specialist register for radiology specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • FRCR or equivalent
  • Basic Medical Degree.
  • Postgraduate professional qualifications as appropriate to post.

Desirable

  • MD or PhD or equivalent

Research

Essential

  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
  • Basic understanding of research methods and statistics.

Desirable

  • Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
  • Previous oral presentations at national and international conferences

Teaching and training

Essential

  • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels

Continuous Professional Development

Essential

  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

Desirable

  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Management and Administration

Essential

  • Knowledge of fundamental issues in radiology departments e.g. IRMER, risk management, QA.
  • Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management

Desirable

  • Attendance at a management course relevant to Radiology
  • Experience of working with management groups.

Personal attributes

Essential

  • Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see below)
  • Good written communication skills
  • The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC' good medical practice (2013).

Clinical governance and audit

Essential

  • Experience in performing clinical audit

Desirable

  • Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project

Clinical experience

Essential

  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner having completed a minimum of 3 years training in general clinical radiology.
  • Minimum of 18 months of completed experience in an RCR approved foetal Imaging training post (at the time of the interview).
  • Ability to undertake a broad range of diagnostic neuroradiology investigation
