Job description

Job Summary

It is envisaged that the post holder will work 10 programmed activities over the week. Following appointment, there will be a meeting at no later than three months with the Lead Consultant to review and revise the job plan and objectives of the post holder. The overall split of the programmed activities is 7.5 to be devoted to direct clinical care and 2.5 to supporting professional activities (as recommended by the Royal College of Psychiatrists).

Main Duties of the Job
  1. Provide clinical leadership for the ward team and trainees.
  2. The ward has 17 beds and patients can be admitted from across the trust's patch.
  3. Conduct daily ward reviews and ward rounds, support the team to complete CPA.
  4. Undertake assessments of admissions to the service.
  5. Assist team to diagnose and formulate management plans in all presentations.
  6. Assessment and management of risk including vulnerability, suicide risk, risks to health and safety, and risk of harm to others.
  7. Coordinate care with input from pharmacists.
  8. Preparation of Mental Health Review Tribunal and Managers' Hearings reports and attendance at subsequent hearings.
  9. Preparation of consent to treatment paperwork as well as any other MHA work such as section 17 leave, section renewals, and CTOs if required.
  10. Work in a collaborative way with multidisciplinary teams including external partners.
  11. Work in partnership with psychiatrists from partner providers such as Forensic and Rehabilitation Psychiatrists.

Essential:
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable:
  • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Eligibility
Essential:
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
Desirable:
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
