Consultant Psychiatrist - General Adult - Early Intervention

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a full-time substantive Consultant Psychiatrist. This post is based on the Early Intervention Model in Rochdale and is a Community post.

Main duties of the job
  1. To provide consultant psychiatric input to a high functioning community EIS as part of a multi-disciplinary service, offering a comprehensive assessment and NICE concordant treatment package of care to all patients.
  2. To provide high-quality Mental Health Care for adults following the EIS frameworks.
  3. To work closely with other teams and Consultants to ensure coherent and high-quality mental health care for adults with severe and enduring mental health problems within the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (Rochdale borough) area.
  4. To work with the MDT to support the development of the service and attend local and divisional service development meetings.

Rochdale has a strong teaching commitment, and candidates will be expected to contribute to the teaching of medical and nursing staff. There are close links to ongoing research projects, and the Consultants contribute to local service user & carer groups.

The post holder will be based at the Outpatients department Birch Hill Hospital Rochdale. Rochdale operates an Inpatient-Outpatient model (New Ways of Working) and is staffed by 9 full-time Consultants in Adult Psychiatry and old age psychiatry, along with a nurse consultant on the female adult ward. Each Consultant Psychiatrist is allocated a Junior Doctor (NW Deanery training schemes) to work with them.

Job responsibilities

Applicants must be on the GMC's Specialist Register or eligible for inclusion, or be within six months of the anticipated award of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Adult Psychiatry at the time of interview for the post.

Low frequency on-call (1 in 31) with full second tier on call and 1 day off after your on call.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management. MRCPsych.
  • Additional clinical qualifications.
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
Clinical skills, knowledge and experience
  • Excellent knowledge in specialty.
  • Excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others.
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to the post within NHS or comparable service.
Academic skills and lifelong learning
  • Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
  • Ability to work in and lead a team.
  • Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement.
