Consultant Psychiatrist - Community Forensic Services (FIND)

An exciting opportunity has arisenfor the post of a Consultant Psychiatrist in Forensic Intellectual and NeurodevelopmentalDisorders (FIND) Service. The Community Forensic Service consists of threeteams- Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT), Forensic Personality DisorderService (FPDS) and FIND. Over the last 5 years FPDS and SCFT have expanded andFIND expansion is planned for 2024. FIND is a regional service serving Devon(incl. Plymouth), Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

FIND service delivers care pathwayservice for both men and women with Intellectual disabilities, Autism and/or AcquiredBrain Injury (ABI). The service works with these patients in order to optimiselength of stay and the forensic care pathway. A key aim is to reduce the use ofout-of-area or specialist placements and for efficient use of South Westnetwork beds. Currently the FIND service offers Signposting and advice (Tier1), Consultation, training and supervision (Tier 2), Joint work, Care pathwaymanagement and Access assessment (Tier 3). When the FIND team has undergone theplanned expansion, they will also hold a small caseload of Tier 4 Careco-ordination.

The post-holder will join anexciting and highly motivated team in delivering a range of care in awell-established tiered system. The post holder will have a capped caseload ofpatients and act as community RC for this cohort.

Main duties of the job

It is anticipated that thepost-holder will be a key stakeholder in shaping the growth, development andexpansion of the service. This post offers an opportunity to develop andprovide clinical leadership for the Service. They will join the Secure serviceon-call rota which has middle and junior grades on-call system embedded in it.They will join the diverse and dynamic RC/consultant group of the Secureservice as part of clinical leadership team of the Service. The service iscommissioned by the South West Provider Collaborative (SWPC), which allows thepost-holder to contribute to regional strategic developments.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Prior experience working in a Forensic and/or Learning Disability Service.
  • Experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings, especially the community.
  • Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance.
  • Evidence of development of special interest in Forensic and/or Learning Disability services.
  • Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care.
  • Trained in structured clinical risk assessment relevant to this patient population.

Management

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and managers.
  • Awareness of NHS management and funding arrangements.
  • Management training / experience.
  • Experience of involvement in service development.

Qualifications

  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
  • To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post.
  • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview.
  • Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
  • Other professional qualification
  • CCT in Learning Disability Psychiatry / Forensic Psychiatry.
  • Evidence of ability to exercise leadership in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other clinical teams.
  • Evidence of new ideas in service delivery.
  • A track record of implementing service initiatives.
