Job description

Consultant Oncologist Germ Cell and Sarcoma - East Midlands

Triple West Medical have been appointed by an NHS Trust based in the East Midlands to help recruit a Consultant Oncologist Germ Cell and Sarcoma for a substantive basis, or may consider a 12 Month Locum Fixed Term Contract.

The Trust is one of the largest employers in the area and are on an exciting journey. With over 15,000 staff, they provide a range of national and international specialists services and are at the forefront of new procedures and research programmes. The Trust is going through an exciting period with a major new capital build redevelopment programme.

The successful candidate will join a team of three consultant oncologists working in the germ cell tumour service and four in the sarcoma service. The oncology department makes a major contribution to the Trust's research strength and we have an active clinical trials portfolio. We have strong links with departments within the local University Medical School. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved with clinical research and teaching and will be a core member of two supra-regional sarcoma multidisciplinary teams (main sarcoma MDT and retroperitoneal sarcoma MDT) and the supra-regional Germ Cell Tumour MDT.

Brief Clinical Duties

  1. A full range of Oncology emergency and elective patients are admitted to the NHS Trust and the appointee will be responsible for the management of those patients admitted under his/her care.
  2. Provision with Consultant colleagues of a comprehensive elective and emergency Oncology service.
  3. Provision of reciprocal cover for periods of leave.
  4. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and the proper functioning of the department.
  5. Expected to take an active role in clinical governance activities including (but not restricted to) clinical audit, incident reporting, review of complaints, risk management, CPD and Evidence-Based Practice. Each directorate has a Consultant Clinical Governance lead.
