We are seeking to appoint a Consultant Rheumatologist to join the existing Defence Rheumatology Service (DRS) at Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) at Stanford Hall. We are looking for enthusiastic, innovative and dedicated individuals keen to add to our drive for continuous improvement to help us provide the best possible service to our patients.
About us
This is a modern, purpose-built tri-service rehabilitation centre opened in 2018, located near Loughborough and is administratively part of Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC). DMRC’s purpose is to provide inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation for SP’s with musculoskeletal and neurological injuries related to sports, exercise & training, overseas operational activities, other trauma or neurological diagnosis or event. The delivery of care is centred around intensive, residential, group-based exercise therapy provided by multi-disciplinary teams (MDT). Teams include Complex Trauma, Neuro, Lower Limbs, Spines, Upper Quadrant and Specialist Rehabilitation. DMRC is the only Defence location offering DRS. DRS provide an MDT approach, enhanced pain/inflammatory assessment, medication optimisation to facilitate rehab, function and occupational status. The site includes clinical radiology and active research and education departments. Facilities on site include gyms, swimming pool, free parking, on site shop, golf course, running track, tennis courts.
Job Purpose:
DRS will accept referrals for any SP in the UK military with any rheumatological concern. As a result, the caseload consists of patients with a breadth of presentations ranging from complex conditions often co-managed in the NHS, to more routine inflammatory and non-inflammatory illness. With an increasing caseload managing patients through their careers, a civilian Rheumatology Consultant has been established to join the team of Defence Rheumatologists, Rheumatology Specialist Nurses and Allied Healthcare Professionals (AHPs) to deliver an occupationally focused Rheumatology resource within a rehabilitation service, in collaboration with wider Defence Medical Services.
