Job description

Interim Consultant in Public Health

Location: London

Rate: £650 a day

Contract: Inside IR35, 4 months, Part time (3 days a week)

Start date: ASAP

Working arrangement: Hybrid

Context:

  • We are seeking a Consultant in Public Health to take forward a series of core projects aligned to the developing public health portfolio.
  • The consultant will report to the Director of Public Health and work closely in alignment with the Council’s Strategic Director and across the Place Based Partnership.

Scope of work:

  1. Planning, licensing, regeneration:
Planning, licensing, transport and regeneration are areas held across the Council and Be First, the aligned council-owned company. Due to the technical complexity of the work and spread of responsibilities across the two organisations, it takes considerable resource to actively engage within the processes and people involved. Public health has, in recent years, had intermittent engagement with these areas and currently lacks a strategic approach to support this.
  2. The consultant will review key public health actions/best practices related to planning, licensing, and regeneration (e.g., response to planning and licensing applications, health impact assessment) and engage with local stakeholders to assess their current and potential application locally. The desired output is to identify likely highest impact areas to prioritise public health engagement, given current resource and capacity, and to make recommendations on potential public health skills, structure, and resource development in these areas to maximise action on effective outcomes going forward.
  3. Estimated work time: 15 days of work across a period of 4-6 months.
  1. Scoping a strategic approach to health inequalities:
The place partnership has an evolving health programme now in its second year, encompassing the development of cross-sector infrastructure (e.g., PCN Health Inequalities Leads and VCFSE Community Locality Leads) and specific projects targeting local inequalities (e.g., targeted debt advice, health literacy, CYP mental health and resilience). However, addressing health inequalities requires a long-term vision, and the Partnership is looking to scope a strategic approach to health inequalities at place level.

Selection criteria questions:

  • Inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List/UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists.
  • Applicants must meet minimum CPD requirements (i.e., be up to date) in accordance with Faculty of Public Health requirements or other recognised body.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Available to start ASAP.

Reasonable Adjustments:
If you consider yourself to have a disability or require any reasonable adjustment during the recruitment process or within the workplace, please highlight this at the earliest opportunity. With this information, we will provide appropriate support to you throughout the process and into your work placement.
