The Public Health Agency are recruiting for a
CONSULTANT IN HEALTH PROTECTION
to join their team.

Grade: Medical Consultant: £106,424 – 139,920 per annum
Non-Medical Consultant: £88,168 - £101,677 per annum
Accountable to: Professionally: Deputy Director of Public Health
Managerially: Assistant Director of Public Health

Job Summary

In this role, you will be responsible for dealing with the surveillance, prevention and control of communicable disease in Northern Ireland within the context of the regional Health Protection Service (HPS). You will provide specialist leadership, advice and support to PHA health protection staff and the wider Public Health team and deliver health protection duties to meet the objectives of the HPS. You will be responsible for making a significant contribution to the response to infectious and non-infectious environmental hazards. As part of this, you will lead the planning and delivery of complex health protection work programmes within multidisciplinary teams and working collaboratively with Health Protection colleagues.

This role will include leadership responsibility for aspects of the Health Protection Service, and you will be required to undertake such duties as stipulated in the Public Health (Amendment) Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 and other legislative responsibilities as appropriate.

Essential Criteria

  1. In line with current legislation, inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List or inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists at the point of application or public health specialty registrar applicants who are currently on the UK public health training programme and not yet on the GMC Specialist Register, GDC Specialist List in dental public health or UKPHR must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry to a register at the date of interview.
  2. If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health practice.
  3. If an applicant is UK trained in Public Health, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. If an applicant is non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
  4. Applicants must meet minimum CPD requirements (i.e. be up to date) in accordance with the requirements of the Faculty of Public Health/Royal College of Pathologists/Royal College of Physicians or other recognised body.
  5. MFPH by examination, by exemption or by assessment, or equivalent.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Masters in Public Health or equivalent.
