The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is one of the largest acute and community Trusts in the West Midlands providing a comprehensive range of services for the people of Wolverhampton, the wider Black Country, Staffordshire, North Worcestershire and Shropshire.
We have been rated as GOOD during our recent CQC inspection. The Trust provides a comprehensive range of community, acute and specialist/tertiary services at New Cross Hospital, (secondary and tertiary services including Maternity, Accident & Emergency, Critical Care, outpatients), West Park Hospital, over 20 Community sites and Cannock Chase Hospital.
Role is based on a 10 PA job plan. Specific details of an individual timetable will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate in keeping with an agreed job plan. A normal clinical session would have between 5-10 clinic slots, dependent on the clinic type.
Acute medical on call cover is 1:8 firm based and is for approx. 1 day per month. This involves being the medical receiving consultant for new admissions in ED & AMU for a 24 hour period. One is expected to be physically present in the hospital from 8am to 10pm on those days, post taking patients on the unit. The post take ward round for the patients admitted overnight is undertaken by the AMU consultants.
Ward cover is undertaken on a rotational basis covering the three ward areas mentioned before. There is middle grade support available for the two larger wards for the morning ward round. Junior doctor team consists of doctors derived from multiple training levels and usually includes the following:
There are generally minimal outpatient clinic commitments when on the ward and one of the three ward consultants (covering C17) will cover Outreach and referrals for that week including reading external referrals via the DOCMAN system and doing outreach ward rounds (Mon/Wed/Fri PM) with the dedicated outreach middle grade and/or DSN. There are no clinics usually booked in for the consultant covering outreach and C17 ward.
