The North London Forensic Service has an exciting position available for an enthusiastic and motivated consultant psychiatrist to join the existing substantive consultant psychiatrists within the well-established Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT).
The successful applicant will join the wider team of consultant psychiatrists within the North London Forensic Service - a large and successful forensic psychiatric service in north London with its secure care services being deemed 'Outstanding' by the CQC.
The Specialist Community Forensic Team currently covers the five London boroughs of Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey, and aims to provide both assertive pre-discharge (transition management) and high levels of multi-disciplinary community forensic after-care for unrestricted patients discharged from secure care. The successful applicant will have responsibility for providing consultant leadership to this well-organized team in the delivery of high-quality patient care to service users, as well as having the opportunity to shape the future of forensic services in north London.
The post holder will find themselves well supported, with ample opportunities for ongoing professional development and collaborative working within the North London Forensic Service in North London NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join a team of 29 Consultant Psychiatrists within the North London Forensic Service, a large and successful forensic psychiatric service in north London, with its secure care services, based in Enfield, being deemed 'Outstanding' by the CQC. The successful applicant will have responsibility for providing Consultant leadership to the Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT), where they will be expected to act as the responsible clinician for up to an approximate maximum of 45 community unrestricted patients discharged from secure care.
Job responsibilities
- To provide clinical leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care to service users in SCFT.
- To provide assessments, treatments, and interventions as part of SCFT.
- To provide holistic care considering the complex health and social care needs of the Service user.
- To provide clinical and professional leadership within the post and take part in management activities and governance processes related to the post or the wider service within which it is embedded.
- As a senior clinician, to have an integral role in the performance of the SCFT, further development of the service, and the development of the clinical pathways and priorities of the service line.
- To train, teach and supervise medical staff and other professionals.
- Compliance with all legal obligations covering clinical practice (e.g. Mental Health Act and code of practice).
- A commitment to ensuring fair access to services for all.
- Compliance with procedures whereby doctors report concerns about professional conduct or competence of medical or other colleagues.
- Compliance with the principles of practice laid out by the GMC and Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- Listed on the Specialist Register of the GMC Medical Register or eligible to register within six months.
- CCT in Forensic Psychiatry or general Adult CCT (with associated appropriate experience for the role).
- Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrist or equivalent qualifications/certification.
- To be "approved" under Section 12 (2) of the 1983 Mental Health Act, the 2007 amendments and any successor legislation.
- Approved Clinician status in terms of the same legislation.
- Experience of assessing and treating patients in acute and community psychiatric settings.
- Membership of a professional indemnity organisation.
- Engagement with annual appraisal.
- Experience in multi-disciplinary teaching.
- Ability to take a leadership role in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high quality care and staff morale.
- Capacity to respond positively to the changing nature of an acute inpatient setting.
- Excellent communication skills in verbal and written media.
- Experience of working in mental health in reach prison settings.
- Publications in the field of Psychiatry.
- Management Skills.
- Have experience working with different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
- CCT in forensic psychiatry.
