Job description

Overview

Do you want to make a difference? Do you want to work in an environment where you can use your clinical skills and your creativity to achieve the best for people?

The Cambridgeshire Drug and Alcohol Service (CGL) is recruiting a Consultant Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join the senior leadership team and oversee the delivery of a high-quality Psychology service. The Cambridgeshire service consists of 3 locality teams based in Cambridge, Huntingdon and Wisbech, and a number of specialist teams including Criminal Justice, Family Safeguarding and the Homeless Engagement and Recovery Team (HEaRT).

Responsibilities

The Psychology team consists of the Core service sub-team and HEaRT sub-team. The Core team works county-wide and comprises this Consultant post, an 8a and assistant psychologist. The HEaRT team comprises 8b and band 7 psychologists and covers Cambridge City only. As the Consultant, you will provide leadership, oversight and supervision to the Psychology team around their delivery of a wide range of activities in service of improving the quality of our service users’ lives and supporting recovery. These activities include training, supervision, consultation, reflective practice, group and 1:1 therapeutic interventions.

You will also form a valued part of the CGL multidisciplinary team which consists of recovery coordinators, nurses, doctors, social workers, peer mentors and volunteers. You will support these colleagues to deliver psychologically informed care through team consultation and reflective practice. You will use your expertise in substance use and mental health to help colleagues make sense of their clients’ complex difficulties and more effectively support their journey through treatment to recovery. You will also offer clinical supervision and governance around team group psychosocial interventions for substance use difficulties.

You will work with commissioners and service partners to reduce the barriers to appropriate mental health treatment for people using substances, and feed into strategic forums to support this ambition. Where needed you will be available to provide specialist teaching and consultation to support mental health teams in this work.

You will continue to evolve the in-house Psychology groups and workshops offer, which currently includes Trauma Stabilisation (Seeking Safety), Managing Emotions and CBT workshops, to support clients with co-occurring difficulties. While a smaller part of the role, you will also have opportunities for individual therapeutic work.

You will join a supportive group of qualified Clinical, Counselling and Forensic Psychologists nationally as part of our Psychology Directorate for peer support, reflective practice, research and CPD opportunities. Regular clinical supervision will be from the National Head of Psychology; line management supervision is provided by the Service Manager.
