Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in Cardiac Devices

Applications are invited to apply for a Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in cardiac devices at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a post to replace a Consultant. It is for a whole-time consultant in cardiology with a specialist interest in Pacing and Devices. It is a joint post with OUH.
The post holder will contribute to all aspects of the cardiology service at MKUH and facilitate the urgent transfer of patients in need of super-speciality treatment to other hospitals.
The responsibilities include diagnosis, treatment and aftercare of cardiology patients presenting either as emergencies or referred on an elective basis. Working with the existing Cardiologists, the post holder will be responsible for providing both inpatient (including cardiology in-reach) and outpatient services for MKUH, for which the Trusts will provide the necessary support.
The appointee will be expected to complement the existing expertise of their physician colleagues including the Cardiologists.
Main duties of the job
- Provision of acute and elective care of Cardiology patients.
- Take responsibility for management of all adult cardiology patients in all its aspects in conjunction with community services and the regional centres.
- Improve the flow of patients at MKUH by regular liaison with the physicians facilitating investigations including cardiac imaging, coronary angiography, PCI and pacemaker implantation and appropriate management of cardiac referrals.
- Lead 1-2 Cath Lab sessions at MKUH and 2 at OUH implanting pacemakers. S/he will lead the local Pacing Service including the Complex Device Follow Up clinic.
- Provide acute and elective care for Cardiology patients, including the provision of a cardiac in-reach service, triage of referrals from Primary Care and response to Advice & Guidance requests from GP.
- Participate in the Consultant of the Week Rota.
- Support with service developments and improvements to allow the service to continue to grow and meet the needs of the growing local population.
- Support and ensure Governance within the service to ensure patient safety is maintained and incidents are raised early and investigated properly.
Person Specification
- MB BS or equivalent
- MRCP or equivalent
- BSc/MA
- MD/PhD
Professional training
- CCT in Cardiology or within 6 months of attaining it
- BSE / ESC Accreditation in Echocardiography
- Cardiac device implantation and management
- Broad experience in all aspects of general Cardiology
- Breadth of experience within and outside speciality
Level of responsibility
- Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems.
Teaching and training skills
- Evidence of contributions to teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates.
- Evidence of ability to motivate and develop both medical and non-medical staff.

- Evidence of ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Evidence of attendance at an accredited management training course.
- Interest in Medical Management

- If applying with CESR, must be on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of application.

Salary: £105,504 to £139,882 a year Per Annum pro rata
