Job description

Consultant Anaesthetist with special interest in pain management
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust

We are seeking applications from excellent and dynamic individuals to the post of consultant anaesthetist with interest in pain management.

The successful candidate will join our pain management department as well as a team of 21 consultant anaesthetists and 18 Speciality Doctors in providing anaesthetic services at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

This is a permanent post, based on a 10PA contract. The appointed consultant will have the option to take up to 2 additional PAs subject to agreement with the Clinical Director. The appointed consultants will join the general 1 in 16 on call rota.

The pain management duties of the post include: pain clinics, rounds, MDT and interventional pain theatre lists. The integrated pain team consists of consultants, specialist nurses and therapists, in addition to the administrative and secretarial support staff.

Southend Hospital is a thriving cancer treatment centre. Major complex urology (robotic assisted and laparoscopic), gynae-oncology, colorectal, and breast procedures form a large part of theatre work, in addition to orthopaedics & trauma, oral surgery, ENT, interventional pain and general surgery.

Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • FRCA or equivalent
  • Inclusion on the GMC's Specialist Register for Anaesthesia or eligibility for inclusion (or within 6 months of attainment at the time of interview).
  • FFPMRCA / DFPMRCA or equivalent
  • Masters or equivalent
  • MD or PhD
Experience
  • Completion of higher training in anaesthesia (CCT or CESR)
  • Possession of technical skills required for pain medicine
  • Chronic pain fellowship or completion of recognised advanced pain training
  • Experience of working at consultant level
  • UK experience
