Opportunity
Working as part of a skillful multi-discipline team, Head Medical are seeking a Consultant Anaesthetist (General) to come to work for a leading private hospital group in the UK. This position is shared between their Southampton and Portsmouth sites.
Southampton is an elective surgery hospital, delivering in excess of 15,000 inpatient and day case procedures a year. Consultant Anaesthetists work with patients across a range of specialties, including Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Dental, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, ENT, and Urology.
Portsmouth is a Surgical Centre delivering a comprehensive range of general surgeries, eye treatments, and orthopaedic care services such as hip replacement.
As the successful appointee in this key role, you'll be anaesthetising patients for all kinds of procedures – from ophthalmology to orthopaedics, and from gynaecology to general surgery. Alongside your clinical responsibilities, you'll also have the chance to get involved in the administrative and managerial aspects of the department, and in the development of less experienced colleagues.
This is on an elective basis except where a postoperative patient requires a return to theatre. You will be required to attend OPD on a rota basis to help in the pre-assessment of patients prior to surgery.
The post holder will be required to have completed a substantial number of procedures identified above independently. Applicants will be expected to have an excellent clinical quality record and be able to demonstrate the ability to perform efficiently in theatre.

A typical job plan will comprise of 40 hours of clinical activity per week, including Saturdays on occasions, with flexible elements. Five hours for SPA is given per week, but employees are expected to work flexibly where necessary when colleagues are on leave - rotas are planned months in advance.
