We are currently advertising for 3 new Consultant Anaesthetists to join our department, specifically in Paediatric Anesthesia.
The Department provides Anaesthesia services for all major surgical specialties and works across two sites. Most elective work takes place at Castle Hill Hospital whilst urgent care, obstetric and paediatric care is at Hull Royal Infirmary.
The Women's and Children's hospital manages about 6000 deliveries per year, with an elective caesarean section rate of 10% and an emergency caesarean section rate of 15%. For many years, Hull has been a leading centre for the practice and teaching of obstetric anaesthesia. There are active research and audit programs and opportunities for innovation in clinical practice.
Most Paediatric services are offered at the Hull Royal Infirmary site. Most elective paediatric surgical work includes general paediatric surgery, orthopaedics, urology, plastics, ENT and Oral maxillofacial surgery in the inpatient and Day Surgery setting.
Some neonatal surgery in elective and occasionally emergency setting is provided during daytime hours only. No out of hours neonatal surgery is currently undertaken.
The average number of paediatric surgical cases done in the 5 years from 2020-2024 is around 2500 per year.
Radiology investigations such as planned paediatric MRI lists are also part of our service provision.
