Senior Project Engineer

Primary Duties:

  • Oversee all phases of construction project activities.
  • Ability to thoroughly review the construction documents and identify any constructability issues and/or errors or admissions.
  • Ensure bid documents are properly packaged and distributed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate internal bidding efforts to eliminate any gaps.
  • Oversee cost solicitation efforts and ensure adequate trade coverage is obtained prior to bid-day.
  • Ability to write scopes of work for all bid packages; take lead on bid distribution and assist with bid openings and bid tabulations.
  • Ability to perform and record material take-offs.
  • Ensure proper handling of pre-bid meetings, site visits, managing pre-bid RFIs, etc.
  • Assist with bid openings, bid tabulations and presentations.
  • Lead post-bid interviews.
  • Draft subcontracts and/or purchase orders with limited oversight.
  • Ensure proper and prompt execution of preconstruction field activities such as job signage, temporary fencing, job-specific safety manuals, office trailer procurement, tool management etc.
  • Ensure that all appropriate permits and licenses for each project are secured in a timely manner.
  • Create initial critical path schedule, update it on a weekly basis with the Field Superintendent and distribute to project partners/trades.
  • Oversee the RFI & Submittal process. Take lead on critical and technical issues and submittals without oversight.
  • Ensure that material and equipment deliveries are consistent with construction deadlines.
  • Facilitate the upstream and downstream change management process.
  • Ability to negotiate cost changes with trades and process change orders.
  • Assist in managing project budgets and performing budget updates.
  • Assist and/or process monthly invoicing and billings. Must have a firm understanding of billing procedures.
  • Act as the conduit between the office and the field.
  • Regular interaction with peers on-site, including face-to-face meetings and spontaneous conferences.
  • Ability to fill-in for Project Managers, at times, for meetings and walkthroughs.
  • Attend Internal Management meetings and represent all PE’s and PC’s.
  • Ensure project closeout phase is completed thoroughly and expeditiously.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors, engineers, architects and other key team members of the project team.
  • Attend all internal and external meetings, prepare meeting agendas and review minutes prior to distribution.
  • Effective time management and ability to identify and complete duties thoroughly.
  • Operate in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Possess the desire and ability to look identify possible improvements in company procedures and have the willingness to implement them.
  • Follow and enforce company quality, safety, and environmental guidelines as well as employee handbook policies.
  • Mentor and train Project Coordinators and Project Engineers.
  • Ensure company policies and procedures are being maintained by all office and field staff.
  • Assist with response to RFPs and preparation of presentation for new projects.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Project Management.

Qualifications/Experience/Education:

  • 10+ years, minimum, experience in Construction Management with 1-2 years of team leadership.
  • Needs to have the knowledge and ability to effortlessly navigate and identify the projects necessary administrative activities without constant direction.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of the overall construction process and the capacity to mentor and train team members.
  • Ability to perform duties without any direction and/or oversight.
  • Ability to navigate, comprehend and build in accordance with the contract documents, budget and schedule.
  • Willingness and ability to communicate via the phone.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project (or similar scheduling software), Teams and OneNote.
  • Proficient and complete understanding in Autodesk Cloud (or similar project management software), Bid Connect (or similar bidding software) and Bluebeam (or similar drawing software).
  • Proficient in DocuSign, Sage 300 and TimberScan.
  • Good interpersonal skills. Demonstrate professionalism; be courteous and respectable to clients.
  • Highly organized. Able to multitask and adapt to fluid situations.
  • Excellent communication skill, both, written and oral.
  • Pass pre-employment drug-screen and 7-year background check.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering but not required if applicant has sufficient job-related experience.
