Job Description

Our client is a construction company delivering residential and commercial projects across the UK. As they expand, they are adding an Estimator and Buyer to their team. This is a key position that combines procurement expertise with cost estimating, playing a vital role in both pre-construction and live project stages. The Estimator and Buyer will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, managing tender processes, and sourcing competitively priced materials and subcontractor packages. You will work closely with the Directors, Site Managers, and external suppliers to ensure projects are both commercially viable and delivered on budget.

Main Duties

Estimating:

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for residential and commercial projects
  • Analyse drawings, specifications, and scope documents to produce accurate pricing
  • Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to gather and evaluate quotations
  • Support tender submissions and value engineering exercises
  • Assist project cost plans

Buying or Procurement:

  • Source and procure construction materials, plant, and subcontractor services
  • Negotiate best value deals while ensuring quality and reliability
  • Manage purchase orders and track deliveries against project timelines
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Keep material cost databases up to date and in line with market rates

Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience in estimating, buying, or commercial support within construction
  • Solid knowledge of residential construction methods and materials
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and numeracy
  • Confident with Excel, estimating software, and supplier systems
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments
