Job description

SoftInWay, Inc. (www.softinway.com) is a global, fast-growing engineering simulation software company voted as a part of the top 100 Startups in Massachusetts in 2021. We support the leading aerospace, defense, and cleantech companies with advanced simulation software and engineering services to help develop their products. Whether you are a software developer, product engineer, sales team member, or part of our administrative team, at SoftInWay the contributions of all our team members are an integral part of our company’s success.

We are seeking a Computational Engineering Solver Developer to join our Turbomachinery team and focus on the development of advanced numerical solvers for our simulation software suite. This position will focus on developing one or more of the following solver types: 0D-1D thermodynamic and fluid-thermal calculation methods, 3D CFD solvers, or structural analysis solvers to enhance the performance and capabilities of our turbomachinery design and analysis tools.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement high-performance numerical solvers in one or more of the following areas:
  • 0D-1D thermodynamic and fluid-thermal calculations
  • Structural analysis and mechanics
  • Develop efficient algorithms to solve complex engineering problems within turbomachinery applications
  • Optimize existing solver code for improved accuracy, stability, and computational efficiency
  • Integrate developed solvers into the company’s turbomachinery design systems
  • Create appropriate validation test cases and verification protocols for solver accuracy
  • Collaborate with turbomachinery experts to translate engineering requirements into solver capabilities
  • Research and implement state-of-the-art numerical methods for computational efficiency
  • Document solver methodologies, algorithms, and implementation details
Requirements:
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computational Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in developing numerical solvers for engineering applications
  • Strong programming skills in C# / Python / C++
  • Advanced knowledge in at least one of the following areas:
  • 1D fluid-thermal calculation algorithms using implicit schemes
  • CFD methods, turbulence models, and numerical schemes
  • Structural analysis and finite element methods
  • Proficiency in numerical methods, including finite element, finite volume, finite differences, and iterative solvers
  • Solid understanding of software development practices (OOP, SOLID) and version control systems (Git)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in multiple solver domains (1D fluid-thermal modeling, CFD, structural analysis)
  • Previous experience with commercial engineering software development
  • Knowledge of turbomachinery design tools and workflows
  • Experience with GPU programming or high-performance computing
  • Publication record in computational engineering or numerical methods
