Composite Jig Design Engineer

At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars with the aim of fighting for world championships each and every year.

About the role:

We are looking for an experienced Jig Design Engineer within our Composite Design department, whose aim is to produce best in class, F1 championship winning composite components. The Jig Design Engineer is responsible for working across all Composite Build, Design & Manufacturing departments, to define, and develop the most suitable Bond and Machine fixtures to ensure Composite Components meet their Design and functional criteria.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Working closely with the Composite Designers to conceive, design and develop jig solutions with which to manufacture F1 Car parts.
  • Develop and manage the existing relationships with the Composite manufacturing, Build, Test and Race departments.
  • Encourage technical consistency within MGP for all Jig and Tooling common practices, standards and tools.
  • Create and innovate right first-time solutions from clean sheet of paper to updating existing and proven techniques.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to drive continuous improvement.
  • Organize workload with the project engineer to ensure the Car Part tracker dates are met.
What we are looking for:
  • A strong desire to create best-in-class Jigs and tools within a motorsport environment, aligning personal skills and interests with business objectives.
  • Significant professional experience in a similar role, preferably within a high-performance environment.
  • Someone who can manage and juggle workload around an ever-changing program plan.
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight design schedules.
  • Ideally have a self-motivated and ownership attitude.
  • Outstanding communication and can-do approach to working with the Team environment.
  • A solid foundation and understanding of best Engineering practices, GDT and manufacturing techniques & processes.
  • Ability to create robust, modular 3D models and assemblies, and to produce detailed 2D drawings.
