Job description

Are you passionate about sustainability and making a real impact in the food industry? Do you have a sharp eye for detail and a proactive approach to compliance and reporting? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract .

Fresh People are working on behalf of a leading fresh produce business to recruit a Compliance & Sustainability Assistant offering a fantastic opportunity to join a progressive business committed to responsible sourcing and supply.

This role is ideal for someone with a background in food science or environmental disciplines.

The Person

Passionate about sustainability, compliance, and working with global supply chains.You ll play a key role in supporting and delivering technical compliance and sustainability initiatives from ethical due diligence and food safety to monitoring environmental impacts and sustainability performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with suppliers to collate, review and file accurate due diligence documentation on internal and customer platforms.

  • Monitor and report on compliance throughout the supply chain lifecycle.

  • Manage daily chemical surveillance testing schedules for inbound produce.

  • Conduct supplier recall and traceability exercises to support robust food safety practices.

  • Maintain approved supplier lists for internal and customer use.

  • Collate, review and analyse environmental data from suppliers, including metrics on food waste, carbon emissions, water usage, and sustainable farming certifications.

What We re Looking For

  • A degree in Food Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a similar scientific discipline.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Power BI.

  • Experience working with online sustainability platforms and managing large datasets.

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.

  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent project management, organisational, and communication skills.

  • A proactive mindset with a strong work ethic and ability to meet deadlines.
