Job description

Are you passionate about supporting people with mental health challenges and reducing social isolation? We are looking for a dedicated Compeer Befriending and Hub Support Officer to play a key role in our befriending programme and community hub.

In this role, you will support Compeer, our in-house befriending programme, by ensuring that volunteers and participants build and maintain strong, supportive relationships. You will also contribute to the running of our Finchley Hub, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where people can connect, participate in activities, and access practical support.

This post is fixed term, initially for 3 months with a possible extension and will be working up to 30.5 hours across the week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with additional time on the Monday at our Finchley hub.

The core hub hours will be 10.30am to 3.30pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and then the remaining hours outside of this will be for Compeer.

Monday – 9-5 (7.5 hours)
Tuesday – 9-5 (7.5 hours)
Wednesday – 9-5 (7.5 hours)
Thursday – 9-5.30 (8 hours)

Key Responsibilities
Compeer Befriending Programme
  1. Support and check in with matched Compeer befriending pairs.
  2. Process and log volunteer reports.
  3. Attend allocations meetings to discuss and process new referrals.
  4. Interview and train new Compeer volunteers.
  5. Facilitate matches between volunteers and service users.
Hub Support
  1. Create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for hub members.
  2. Support with the daily lunch service.
  3. Co-facilitate groups and community activities.
  4. Collect payments from members upon arrival.
  5. Provide on-the-spot practical support to members as needed.
General Duties
  1. Build positive relationships with service users, volunteers, and colleagues.
  2. Maintain accurate records on our client record-keeping system.
  3. Raise any safeguarding or welfare concerns.
  4. Uphold confidentiality and best practices in service delivery.
  5. Support with administration and organisational tasks as required.
What We’re Looking For
  1. Experience working in a service delivery setting.
  2. Experience working with and supporting volunteers.
  3. Strong organisational and time management skills.
  4. Excellent IT and administrative skills.
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Ability to engage and support people with mental health challenges.
  7. Ability to manage challenging situations with empathy and professionalism.
Desirable Skills & Experience
  1. Experience working in the mental health or charity sector.
  2. Experience in volunteer or paid recruitment.
  3. Knowledge of safeguarding and confidentiality best practices.
  4. Familiarity with the Jewish community and its cultural needs.
  5. Experience working with young people or vulnerable adults.
