Job description

South Locality MLCO has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join our Community Stroke and Neuro Rehabilitation Teams.


The successful candidate will hold a varied caseload of patients with acquired swallowing and communication difficulties, working with a specialist Multi-Disciplinary Team and with Speech & Language Therapists within the South Manchester Stroke & Neuro Teams and across the MLCO.


The service is passionate about delivering high quality, patient centred care within patient's own homes and in a wider community settings. The successful candidate will be required to travel across the city of Manchester. A UK Driving license, access to a vehicle for work, valid work permit and HCPC registration are essential. This post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) enhanced check.


We are committed to continually developing the service and our workforce to deliver the best, evidence-based care for our patients. The successful candidate will be integral to this and will be supported to attend relevant training. We also offer a comprehensive induction programme, regular supervision and appraisals.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. To provide assessment and intervention for patients with acquired swallowing and/or communication problems on the Community Stroke and Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team caseload.
  2. To work as an autonomous practitioner managing a caseload, with support from a band 7 Speech and Language Therapist. Using evidence-based practice, specialist knowledge from theoretical and practical experience and a high level of problem solving and reasoning skills in doing this.
  3. To work as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team to deliver integrated care plans with patient needs and goals at the forefront of care.
  4. To support and develop more junior registered and non-registered staff members in the service.
  5. To be part of service development, with the opportunity to develop leadership skills.
