An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Community Nurse to join the Leeds Intensive Support Team. This role has been designed to enable a Band 5 nurse to pursue a career development by gaining the skills and confidence to develop into a Band 6 nurse while in the team. The successful candidate will be supported and reviewed through managerial and clinical supervision to explore a work plan and competencies to help and support the skills required for a Band 6 nurse.
The Intensive Support Team for people with learning disabilities works with individuals who need additional support due to mental health or behavioral needs. Many of our service users have experienced emotional and physical trauma, personality disorders, mental health needs, and a level of learning disability. The team’s overall aim is to keep people out of hospital, empowering service users to overcome individual challenges and providing them and their staff team with the skills and knowledge needed to address the challenges they face.
The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds. We also provide specialist inpatient services in York and some highly specialized services across the country. We would like to recruit a confident, dynamic, and enthusiastic Nurse to join us for the opportunity to build the confidence to become a Band 6 nurse with the team. The successful candidate must have worked with people with a learning disability previously either in the community or in an inpatient setting, be keen to continue to work with people who have complex needs, and have awareness of the needs of people with learning disabilities. The successful candidate will be based within the Intensive Support Team, which operates 7 days a week, covering the city of Leeds. A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle are essential for community-based work.
Essential: Advanced Diploma or degree in Learning Disability Nursing (RNLD or RNMH). Registered within the NMC.
Essential: Awareness of the Learning Disability Nurse role.
Essential: Experience working with people with Learning Disabilities.
Essential: Skills in communicating with a range of service users.
