The Position

The purpose of the community coach is to promote, develop and coach cricket within Surrey. The successful coach will be coaching and developing on some of our key projects with our partners such as Chance to Shine, Lord’s Taverners, ECB and MCCF. The coach will be to help to inspire and support many key programmes which will help to increase the number of participants in cricket and retain them in the game.

The coach should be energetic and enthusiastic who has a passion to support and develop the game, working with multiple partners and organisations. The coach combines coaching and development work and will be responsible for engaging with participants of all ages across Surrey.

The Community Coach will be based at the Kia Oval office and focus on the 7 boroughs of south London during their working week.

What you’ll do:

• Actively work with the schools and young people teams to support and deliver cricket within the county, to develop and connect programmes and to provide a pathway for children to continue playing cricket from childhood to adulthood.
• Deliver on a variety of our programmes such as Chance to Shine Schools & Street, All Stars and Dynamos, Lord’s Taverners, MCCF hubs and community hubs that caters for children & young adults aged between 5-24.
• Delivery of between 26-28 chargeable coaching hours per week.
• Support the transition of players from school playgrounds into wider extra-curricular sessions such as Chance to Shine Street, MCCF hubs, local cricket clubs, ACE Academy, Lord’s Taverners Super 1s.
• Admin duties including communication with schools & parents via emails, phone, WhatsApp, registers, weekly in-house documents.
• Use own initiative to help grow projects and increase participation levels and highlight areas of low participation.
• This role will see you help to upskill staff across schools and utilise online resources to embed cricket across the curriculum for years to come.
• Identify children with potential or keen interest and signpost them to local cricket clubs, street sessions, MCCF hubs, ACE academy programmes or local community sessions.
• Support at local and national competitions as and when required.
• Support the SCF team in the delivery of key events and other cricket development activities.
• Identify and record individual or group case studies for promotional and monitoring and evaluation purposes, working alongside the Marketing and Communications Officer throughout the year.

The Person

The successful candidate will have the following experience / skills / qualities:

Essential:

• Passionate about working with children and young people to help make a difference in their lives.
• Ability to learn quickly with a ‘can do’ attitude, resilient and adaptable.
• Ability to use own initiative to solve problems and be proactive on the ground.
• Experience in a similar role, either paid or voluntary.
• Foundation 1 or Core Coach (level 2 equivalent) ECB Coaching Qualification / multisport coach.
• Good planning and organisational skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good computer literacy, including MS Office.
• Good attention to detail.
• Willingness to work unsociable hours as necessary.
• Good time management skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
• Ambitious and strive to use cricket as a force for good to help inspire and change lives.

Desirable:

• A keen interest and understanding of cricket.
• Knowledge of Chance to Shine, All Stars and Dynamos Cricket national programmes.
• Knowledge of the School sports network.
• Experience in communicating with and an understanding of state primary & secondary schools.
• Driving licence and access to road transport.

Flexibility around working hours and locations within south London & Surrey are vital to the success of this role.

Satisfactory ECB DBS Check, First Aid, Safeguarding and the right to work in the UK.

From £28,808 dependant on experience.
