Internal Communications Manager (Maternity Cover)

The Communications department is responsible for raising awareness for The Economist’s brand, content, and business programmes and successes among internal and external audiences.

Currently, we are seeking an Internal Communications Manager on a 13 month contract basis to join our world-class Communications team. The Communications Manager will report to the Head of Internal Communications and work closely with the global Communications team to help grow awareness of our business activities and success among internal audiences.

The successful candidate will possess a unique mix of communications project management and content development skills and gain first-hand knowledge and experience working as an in-house communications professional for a highly-regarded, global brand in a fast-paced, exciting environment.

Accountabilities

How you will contribute:

  1. Develop and deliver on global internal communications programmes that inspire and engage colleagues.
  2. Serve as a trusted advisor to senior organisational stakeholders to provide counsel and vision on communications initiatives.
  3. Create, review and write content for a variety of internal communication channels to engage and educate colleagues and managers and ensure alignment of internal and external messages.
  4. Drive employee engagement and culture through digital platforms (Slack, Intranet, events).
  5. Plan and organise events which encourage two-way dialogue and knowledge sharing.
  6. Evaluate, using data and other means, the success of internal communications strategies undertaken and propose fresh approaches where needed.
  7. Audit, measure and reflect on communications programmes.

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role are:

  1. Strong executive communications and stakeholder management skills.
  2. Extensive experience managing an intranet and developing content (written, video, visual).
  3. Outstanding written communication skills.
  4. Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to work within tight deadlines.
  5. Strong attention to detail and project management.
  6. Self-starter with a flexible, collaborative, positive and professional demeanour.
  7. Capacity to operate in a global arena and work nimbly under pressure.
  8. Act as an ambassador for the Communications team.
