The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies to support the company's objectives. Reporting into the Head of Marketing & Communications, the role involves managing media relations, creating engaging content, and coordinating various communication channels to effectively reach stakeholders, and strategically utilising paid media to push business messaging to relevant audiences.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Deliver and manage a customer/supplier communications strategy to ensure that our audiences are communicated to in an effective and timely manner, using relevant channels and content.
- Copywriting and content production across digital and print media channels including the Ipsum website and social media.
- Establish and maintain key relationships with journalists, keeping them up to date with key announcements from Ipsum and regularly pitching ideas to them to ensure coverage.
- Development of crisis communication strategies and management of potential reputational risks.
- Monitor and analyse media coverage, providing regular reports on communication effectiveness.
- Work closely with Ipsum operations teams to proactively identify business stories.
- Research and evaluate opportunities for Ipsum senior leaders to speak at external Water & Infrastructure/Power industry events.
- Provide and manage communications support to other group functions/business areas as required.
About You
Desirable Qualifications [& Professional Membership(s)]:
- Relevant marketing or communications qualification (level 4+) or equivalent experience.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Knowledge & Experience:
- Previous experience in an in-house communications or marketing management role.
- Knowledge or keen interest in the Utilities, Infrastructure or Engineering sectors.
- Demonstrable experience of effective writing tailored to different purposes, audiences and platforms.
- Familiarity with SEO, Google Analytics, LinkedIn Ads, and digital marketing strategies.
- Experience with graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva etc.
Skills & Personal Qualities:
- Analytical, attention to detail and well-organised - supporting specialist research and horizon-scanning activity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling messages for diverse audiences.
- Effective project management - creating, delivering and coordinating plans for individual strategic communications projects.
- Evaluation and continuous improvement skills.
- Stakeholder engagement - managing strategic communications partnerships.
- Ability to coach and support junior team members, aiding their development.
- Ability to successfully support external supplier relationships.
- A collaborative and flexible mindset, including the ability to work across all communications disciplines.
- Strong innovation and creative idea generation.
- Passionate about staying informed of industry trends and regulatory changes in the utilities sector.
- Ability to translate technical content into practical language for non-expert audiences whilst demonstrating creative flare.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
