Job description

We are looking to appoint a part time (19.5 hours, 3 days a week - Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) Communication Support Worker to join the Autism Inclusion Team based at The Orme Academy, Wolstanton as soon as possible.

You will help provide high quality, inclusive educational experience for Autistic children/young people and work alongside the Specialist Teacher and other Communication Support Workers located at The Orme Academy High School Resource base.

Main Responsibilities

You will:

  • provide direct support to pupils within the Resource, including child-focused mentoring and delivery of elements of coursework provided by the school staff.
  • support pupils from the Resource in mainstream lessons and transitions throughout the school.
  • assist in developing the Resource and creating an Autism friendly environment, using neuro-affirmative approaches.
  • support school staff to understand the nature of Autism and the possible social and educational implications for the pupils and their peers, through training and discussion.
    • have the opportunity to deliver Autism specific training to small groups and whole school staff groups.
    • will liaise and collaborate with school staff to encompass the policies of the school and attend staff meetings/training where appropriate.
The Ideal Candidate

You will have:

  • GCSE English and Maths Grade C (or equivalent) or above
  • Experience of working with Autistic young people in an education setting
  • A passion for inclusion, enabling all children to flourish and grow.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • An ability to work as part of a team.
  • An ability to take initiative and work independently when in schools.

Although this role is based within The Orme Academy, Wolstanton there might be incidences of cover support required around the county or to transport of students to events, so you must have daily access to a car.
