Qualifications

  • Experience with high voltage generators and motors is essential.
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Power Engineering or equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

  • Servicing and support of high voltage generators and motors.
  • Delivering technical solutions for capital projects.

Skills

Familiarity with rotating plant (5 to 100MW)

Working knowledge of digital/analogue AVR and PID control systems

Understanding of logic control systems

Key skills in cable and wiring systems (HV and LV)

HV trained up to 13.8 KV

Commissioning of HV circuit breakers

Understanding of generator protection systems

Circuit and system design knowledge

Knowledge of prime mover plant (diesel, gas turbine, hydro)

Vibration analysis and balancing of rotating equipment

IT skills (Microsoft Word and Excel)

Use of AutoCAD

Education

HNC/HND or Degree in Power Engineering

Job description

Commissioning Engineer - Motors & Generators
Excellent opportunity within the power generation sector with opportunity to travel globally.

My client specializes in the power generation industry and due to company growth is looking for an experienced commissioning engineer to join their team, preferably with experience working on motors & generators or within the power generation industry.

The Role
  1. Servicing and ongoing support of large high voltage generators, motors, and associated equipment.
  2. This is a challenging role in which the candidate should demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative for extended periods, supervise others, and liaise with customers at a senior level.
  3. Deliver technical solutions to capital projects in support of customers' requirements.
Required Skills
  1. Familiarity with rotating plant in the range of 5 to 100MW, power transformers up to 30 MW. Induction and synchronous motors up to 20MW. Ex OEM trained is an advantage.
  2. Working knowledge of digital/analogue AVR and PID control systems.
  3. Understanding of logic control systems (PLC familiarity is an advantage).
  4. Key skills in cable and wiring systems HV and LV.
  5. HV trained up to 13.8 KV.
  6. Capability in commissioning of HV circuit breakers.
  7. Understanding and commissioning ability of generator protection systems and relays.
  8. Circuit and system design knowledge is an advantage.
  9. Knowledge of prime mover plant - diesel, gas turbine, and hydro would be advantageous.
  10. Knowledge of journal and rotating element bearing systems and ability to mechanically inspect and service.
  11. Experience of vibration analysis and balancing of rotating equipment.
  12. IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel are essential. Use of AutoCAD would be beneficial.
