Job description

Job Description

We are working with a highly successful publisher of scientific books and journals, and due to growth, they are looking to recruit an experienced Commissioning Editor to complement the commissioning team, to work on a diverse list of book titles in the physical sciences. This role offers hybrid working with 1-2 days in the London office and 3 days working from home.

The Commissioning Editor will acquire new titles and editions of key backlist titles across the physics and chemistry books programme and will assume responsibility for the full editorial process from manuscript to publication. The Commissioning Editor will also develop new areas, prepare, negotiate and finalise contracts, as well as create proposals including costing and pricing suggestions, and portfolio management. An essential part of this role will involve forming collaborative relationships with existing and potential reviewers, authors and potential textbook adopters.

This is an ideal role for an experienced Commissioning Editor looking to expand their experience and take on more responsibility. We are looking for a candidate who is educated to PhD or Master’s level, ideally in a physical science subject, although candidates with commissioning experience in these subject areas without the relevant degree may also be considered. You will have demonstrable experience in scientific book publishing with a track record in STM titles. The ability to nurture, build and manage multiple projects simultaneously is essential, as is the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

This role carries a generous salary and company benefits. If you would like further information, please send your CV with a brief cover note outlining your interest and salary expectations to: info@redwoodrecruitment.com
