Renfrewshire Council is seeking to recruit a Commercial Waste & Business Lead Officer.

Reporting to the Waste Strategy and Business Team Leader within Environment, Housing, and Infrastructure, you will contribute to continually improving service development and delivery within Renfrewshire. Duties will focus mainly on commercial waste, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. Specific responsibilities will include:

  1. Managing the commercial waste team to deliver a commercial waste option to all businesses in Renfrewshire;
  2. Co-ordination of business activities within Waste Services ensuring customers and residents receive a high level of customer care;
  3. Working closely with Corporate Procurement to manage waste and recycling disposal contracts;
  4. Supporting the management of income generating budgets.

We are looking for a positive and supportive team member who can integrate into the Waste Services team, who is happy to work alongside colleagues as well as getting on with their own tasks with the ability to work to deadlines.

It is essential you are educated to Degree level or have relevant appropriate professional experience or evidence of professional competence and skill. You must have a full driving licence as the post will require travel to council and contractors' sites.

You must have experience of working with contracts, knowledge of the statutory and legislative requirements of the service, and knowledge of the procurement of waste contracts.

The waste sector is a fast-changing environment, so forward thinking and strategic planning are essential skills, as well as the capacity to work under pressure to meet legislative objectives and organisational priorities.

The ability to communicate effectively with a range of people and organisations is also essential.

You must be able to manage and deliver within budget and have the ability to support Senior Officers, Team Leaders, Partners, and Elected Members with the ability to plan and carry out work according to agreed deadlines effectively and efficiently.
