Job Description

General Summary:

The Commercial Technology Data & Analytics Engagement Lead is a role within the International Commercial Technology team, reporting directly to the Senior Director, International Commercial Technology. The role will lead the business engagement, planning and delivery of key data and analytics capabilities to support Vertex’s expanding International Commercial organization and will be the technology leader responsible for partnering with our International Commercial business stakeholders and our data and cloud platform teams. We are looking for an analytics expert who understands commercial processes and data in the pharmaceutical space and how the power, scalability and agility of cloud infrastructure and computing can be applied to further mature organizational analytics capabilities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Strategic partner and business engagement lead for all data and analytics needs of the international commercial organization.
• Primary responsibility for co-developing the data and analytics strategy and vision with the business stakeholders and technology teams and then leading technical execution of the same for the international commercial organization.
• Collaborate with the business owners on aligning technology strategy with the business strategy and goals including identification and development of different use cases that create business value.
• Partner with the business product owners and data product managers to create product roadmaps that align with the business goals and technology strategy. Maintain a product backlog.

• Be a focal point and partner with data product owners and dev teams to rapidly prototype, incubate and setup for scaling to establish platforms and services bringing together cross-functional teams.
• Ensure all legal, regulatory, security and compliance needs are adhered to and met.
• Provide overall portfolio leadership for all data and analytics projects and operations supporting the International Commercial organization and partner with the PMO to track portfolio execution and delivery.
• Data and analytics guidance and support to all partners and stakeholders at the IHQ and across international country sites.
• Establish data governance processes and best practices in partnership with the data and knowledge management teams and business stakeholders.
• DTE escalation point and communication channel for any critical issues or outages on data platforms and products.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Strong experience with building and managing data and analytics products and solutions (ideally AWS and Oracle).
• Experience in wide variety of analytics processes like governance, data pipelines and end user experience.
• Experience managing large and complex data projects with proven ability to complete projects and achieve results through others.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate and present to senior business leaders.
• Experience in communicating complex technical capabilities to business partners in a simple and effective way.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong business analysis, data querying and data analysis skills.
• Strong skills in applicability and implementation of data science and machine learning techniques in creating business value.
• Expertise in and experience using business intelligence tools like Tableau and Power BI.
• Strong knowledge of and experience working with databases, SQL and both structured and un-structured data.
• A strong background in both Waterfall and Agile software development methodology.
• Demonstrable ability to lead diverse teams within a complex and challenging environment.
• Good understanding of pharmaceutical industry regulations like GDPR, securing patient data and other industry specific global and local regulations.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher or equivalent professional experience.
• 8 + years experience as a data and analytics leader, preferably in the life sciences industry, during which both professional and management capabilities have been clearly demonstrated.

1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week;
2. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
