We're working exclusively with a leading environmental services business, currently in a phase of significant growth and transformation. With a strong commercial focus and a clear commitment to ESG and Net-Zero goals, this is a unique opportunity to join a collaborative legal team at the centre of the business's strategic operations.

The Opportunity

As a key member of the commercial legal team, you will support high-value contracts and complex tenders that span infrastructure, engineering services, and environmental projects. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you will play a hands-on role in shaping the legal function and supporting strategic commercial activity across multiple business units.

This is a high-impact position that will suit someone with strong commercial acumen, a solutions-focused approach, and deep familiarity with the contracting environment of construction-related industries.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including supply, subcontract, consultancy, framework, and services contracts within construction, engineering, and manufacturing contexts.
  2. Bid & Tender Support: Provide legal input on major bids and tenders, identifying and mitigating contractual risks while supporting business development teams.
  3. Negotiation & Stakeholder Engagement: Lead negotiations with clients, suppliers, and partners to secure favourable terms and value, while maintaining strong internal collaboration.
  4. Legal Strategy & Process Improvement: Support the development of efficient legal and contract management processes, enabling scalability and commercial success.
  5. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with operational, procurement, finance, and project delivery teams to ensure contractual alignment with business goals.

What We're Looking For

  1. A qualified lawyer (Solicitor or Barrister) with significant experience in commercial contracts.
  2. Strong grounding in contracts and procurement within the construction, engineering, or manufacturing sectors.
  3. Expertise in large-scale project contracts, including NEC, JCT, FIDIC would be helpful but is not essential.
  4. A pragmatic, business-oriented mindset, with a focus on enabling growth while managing legal and commercial risks.
  5. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

What's on Offer?

You'll be joining a forward-thinking, purpose-led organisation with a dynamic and supportive culture. Alongside a competitive salary, you'll benefit from:

  1. Company pension & life assurance (4x salary)
  2. Medical cash plan - including dental, optical, and therapeutic treatments
  3. Enhanced parental leave and family-friendly policies
  4. Ongoing professional development and tailored career progression
  5. Employee assistance programme - mental health support and 24/7 GP access
  6. Generous annual leave plus bank holidays
  7. Hybrid working for a better work-life balance

Why This Role?

This is an exceptional chance to move in-house and apply your legal expertise in a strategic, commercially focused environment. You'll be part of a growing legal team, working on exciting projects that make a tangible difference in the UK's sustainability and infrastructure landscape.

Whether you're coming from private practice or already in-house, if you have the sector-specific experience and are looking for a more influential role with room to grow - this is the perfect next step.
