Your role:
- Be an expert on what is happening in General Merchandise in Asda and across the wider market.
- Provide robust and timely weekly trading updates, focusing on sales, trading margin and stock and make considered recommendations on key areas of movement.
- Continually monitor and review stock management including intake, dispatch and terminal position in partnership with Senior Directors and highlight any cash concerns to the CFO.
- Challenge senior stakeholders to prioritise and evaluate trading to help facilitate decisions to deliver growth, unlock opportunities and mitigate risks.
- Ensure correct modelling of strategic initiatives and alignment to corporate principals (including cash optimisation, enhancing the end-to-end sourcing model, delivering the significant Online growth Plan).
- Own the Strategic Plan and 1 Year Plan. Drive the business strategy process, working alongside the category owners to define their long-term plans and category roles.
- Provide robust financial control of forecasting and planning processes, ensuring there are no surprises during month end cycles and taking any learnings forward to continually improve.

- You will be a graduate (or equivalent) with strong academics and have a professional accounting qualification with post qualified experience.
- You will have a range of communication and influencing styles that you can deploy with your stakeholders and senior members of Asda’s Leadership Team to drive performance and deliver their plans and commitments.
- You will comfortably challenge, confront and solve difficult situations whilst maintaining solid internal and external connections.
- You will bring credibility and integrity to your business area through your commercial awareness and mindset of doing the right thing for our business, colleagues and customers.
- You will bring a balanced view to decision making with credible contribution beyond financial analysis / implications.
- You will have a positive attitude, be keen to develop and be motivated to get the job done, delivering to tight timelines; actively seeking accountability and opportunity.
- Demonstrate an inquisitive approach, an eye for detail and solid financial modelling skills, evolving in line with business and external requirements.
For this role we would require at least 3 days in the Asda House office, Leeds.
