Looking to take the next step in your career with a pioneering, forward-thinking business? Passionate about shaping commercial strategies and driving sustainable growth? This could be the perfect opportunity for you!

We're partnering with an innovative, market-leading business that's enabling the construction sector to build a livable, zero-carbon future — today. They provide an end-to-end service designing, funding, building, and operating microgrids (SmartGrids), creating low-carbon, low-cost environments for business and domestic energy customers.

The business is now on the lookout for an experienced Commercial Director to lead a team of Commercial Managers, shaping strategy, driving commercial success, and developing a high-performance team to support the business' growth.

What You'll Be Doing:

  1. Driving Commercial Strategy: Lead the commercial function, ensuring projects meet profitability targets and risks are carefully managed.
  2. Leading Project Sales: Oversee the commercial process from opportunity to contract, ensuring offers are aligned with client needs, risks are mitigated, and proposals secure shareholder investment approval.
  3. Managing Governance: Develop and refine internal processes to ensure efficient project lifecycle management, from offer development to asset adoption.
  4. Team Leadership: Build and develop a high-performing, effective commercial team that can scale with the business.
  5. Client Collaboration: Support the sales team in building strong, lasting relationships with B2B clients to drive repeat business.
  6. Market Insight: Monitor market conditions and regulatory changes, ensuring the business remains agile and competitive.

What We're Looking For:

  1. Proven experience in a senior commercial role within energy utilities or the construction sector.
  2. Knowledge of low-carbon energy technologies and an understanding of DNOs, IDNOs, and ICPs.
  3. Strong negotiation skills — particularly around complex, high-value contracts.
  4. Ability to manage risk and ensure commercial success from development through to operational stages.
  5. Leadership mindset — experience building, leading, and motivating high-performing teams.
  6. Bonus: Understanding of electricity regulations, construction development processes, and utilities procurement.

Why You'll Love This Role:

  1. Work for a forward-thinking, market-leading business dedicated to enabling a zero-carbon future.
  2. Fantastic career development opportunities — shape the commercial strategy and influence the future of the business.
  3. Competitive salary with flexibility based on experience, plus an attractive benefits package.
  4. Nationwide, remote working with occasional travel (including visits to the London office).
  5. Collaborate with an inspiring leadership team in a high-growth, innovative environment.
