Commercial Contracts Procurement Solicitor - Remote Role

The Role:

As a Commercial Contract Procurement Solicitor, you will be responsible for providing expert legal advice on a range of contracts covering services, goods, and some works. You will also draft and advise on grant agreements, procurement law, and provide governance advice based on the Council’s constitutional requirements for contracts. This role is ideal for someone with a background in the public sector, particularly with local government experience. You will play a pivotal role in advising both public and private sector clients on complex procurement strategies, contract drafting, negotiations, and dispute resolution.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, including procurement agreements, supply chain contracts, service agreements, and framework agreements.
  2. Providing procurement law advice, ensuring compliance with public procurement regulations.
  3. Offering legal guidance on contracts for services, goods, works, and grant agreements.
  4. Advising clients on local authority governance, based on the Council’s constitutional requirements for contracts.
  5. Supporting clients with contract management, including contract performance, risk mitigation, and dispute resolution.
  6. Providing expert advice on public sector procurement, including tendering processes and compliance with relevant legislation (e.g., OJEU, PCR 2015).
  7. Keeping up to date with changes in procurement law and advising clients on the implications of these changes.
Requirements:
  1. Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent jurisdiction) with 3 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in commercial contracts and procurement.
  2. Public sector experience is essential, with a strong preference for candidates who have worked within local government.
  3. In-depth knowledge of public procurement regulations, including OJEU and PCR 2015.
  4. Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts within both public and private sectors.
  5. Familiarity with local authority governance and constitutional requirements related to contracts.
  6. Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
  7. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to manage complex legal issues.
  8. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
