Within our Consult business, we harness our unique combination of leading-edge practical expertise and project delivery consultancy to unlock the potential in every project. We invite applications from existing Mace Assistant Managers identifying as ready to move up into a P4 Manager role.

The project involves working as part of Mace's multi-disciplinary team for the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to build four new prisons in England. These prisons form part of an overall programme that will deliver 13,000 modern and efficient prison places to meet future capacity demands across the UK.

Four major UK contractors have formed a Contractor's Alliance which seeks to promote joint processes and shared working practices to achieve improved efficiencies, cost savings, and other improved value to the MoJ.

Responsibilities

You will be a leading advocate of Mace's value of Safety First, and be accountable for leading and maintaining exceptional safety, quality, cost, programme, sustainability, and project compliance standards. You will possess advanced technical expertise in local Health and Safety rules and regulations relevant to the project portfolio. You will champion a diverse and inclusive working environment, and understand the importance of the wellbeing of the people you manage.

You will manage the delivery of key assignments and defined business areas, providing strategic direction and monitoring delivery aligned with overall vision and objectives. You will prepare contract documents, warranties, bonds, and licenses to achieve formal execution by appropriate parties. You will prepare costing associated with design changes, contract awards, construction activities, and client charges, and present these to clients.

You will manage operations that are fiscally and ethically viable, and in accordance with the terms contracts agreed with contractors. You will work collaboratively towards the common goal of net zero carbon transition, and share responsibility for the proactive identification and management of the associated carbon emissions and reductions during the delivery of work. You will commit to making a positive impact for our people, our clients, and our planet, and take ownership for holding others to account who do not uphold the Mace values.

You will develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and seek opportunities to implement improved working practices. You will actively network, innovate, and seek understanding of best practice, utilising the full depth of knowledge of Mace Group, the Centres of Excellence, Mace Way Control Centre, and Knowledge Hub. You will use problem solving and analytical skills for resolving contract and procurement issues within the consultancy practice.

Experience, Knowledge & Skills

  • Proven experience working in high performing teams within a commercial environment.
  • Awareness of NEC 4 contracts, with preferable experience of Option A, change control (CE's) and risk management (EWN's).
  • Good negotiating, influencing and communication skills to command professional respect at all levels.
  • Demonstrable experience in the use of Microsoft Office tools and Contract Administration systems.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, with an eye for detail.
  • Supporting on procurement strategies and contract selection, writing and undertaking procurement reports.
  • Managing the procurement process, ensuring that all stages including prequalification, enquiry, analysis, selection, and contract preparation are performed effectively.
  • Managing and building relationships with suppliers, monitoring and reporting their performance and compliance.
  • Working collaboratively with the client's external cost consultants in preparing recommendations for interim payments to suppliers in accordance with contract requirements and produce payment certificates for sign off by the appropriate project manager.
  • Providing post contract award commercial services for both 'goods' and 'services' up to and including final account.
  • Maintaining the project data sets to achieve consistency, accuracy, and alignment.
  • Supporting the recording of cost and expenditure planning/benchmarking in accordance with the client process.
  • Supporting the client's external cost consultants in cost management, supply chain trending estimating, and forecasting to the project.
  • Supporting the client's external cost consultants in evaluating cost performance data and provide relevant input for monthly performance reports.
  • Supporting the management of budget and spend profiles continually identifying ways to improve cost performance.
  • Supporting the client's external cost consultants and Mace project managers in the preparation of cost reports and analysis on a work breakdown structure/activity basis, identifying areas of learning and any recommendations for efficiency improvement.
