Job description

Being a Coach (commonly referred to as a Support Worker, Residential Support Worker or Children's Mental Health worker) at SuperCare offers a fulfilling chance to positively influence the lives of vulnerable children and young people. In this role, you'll help them become more independent, succeed in their education, and grow personally through various enjoyable activities in a safe environment. You'll collaborate closely with young people, their families, social workers, and other organizations to ensure everyone's needs are addressed, making their transition to adulthood smooth.

Main Duties:

1. Direct work with young people, key working and generally taking an active part in providing day to day care & support on a shift work basis.
2. Working in partnership with young people, their social worker and careers and other relevant agencies.
3. To co-ordinate, monitor and review Care Plans for all allocated young people preparing to make the transition to adulthood and greater independence.
4. Taking responsibility for the upkeep of the establishment with regard to health and safety and primary care issues, as well as making autonomous decisions about individual young people's requests and behaviour whilst on shift.
5. Administrative work and record keeping associated with key working responsibilities and the daily running of the home.
6. To ensure that young people carry as much responsibility for their own lives as they can reasonably and demonstrably be expected to carry, keeping them informed of their circumstances and rights, involving them in planning their lives, supporting them and helping them towards taking greater control and responsibility.
7. Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and report these effectively.
8. Attending to their day to day needs which is not limited to bathing, feeding, cooking for the young people.

Household Responsibilities:

1. To share in the practical activities necessary to maintain the House.
2. To care for the fabric, equipment and overall environment.
3. To be accountable for moneys allocated for specific purposes.
4. Reporting repairs and ensuring that necessary actions are taken.

Personal:

1. To act as a role model and guide for young people setting principles and examples.
2. To keep abreast of good practice in order to develop skills, knowledge and experience, in accordance with a personal development plan.
3. To make use of regular professional supervision.
4. To report to a line manager, or other appropriate person, malpractice or evidence which may suggest it.

Additional Duties:

1. To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by management.
2. To work shifts including weekends and bank holidays on a Rota basis as required.
3. Flexibility to work at other properties as directed by management.

We follow Safer Recruitment measures. You should expect to provide adequate DBS information and personal information to prove your address and person. You will be subject to enhanced DBS checks before being offered a placement and should be prepared to volunteer any relevant information on request.
You will receive regular and ongoing micro training in order to perform your role to your absolute best.

Your training will include 36 days face to face training per year with our external training specialist.

We encourage internal promotions so will expect you to enter your level 3 or level 5 in an appropriate timescale. This job description is subject to regular review.

Requirements to be successful:

1. Experience of working with children / young people in Ofsted environment (important).
2. Level 3 CYPW or above (essential).
3. Enhanced DBS Check, and on the update service (essential).
4. Ability to drive.
5. Smart and agile to handle the daily needs and activities of the young people.
