About the Role

Magna Advanced Automation (MAA) is an operating unit of Magna International, one of the world’s premier global automotive suppliers. Magna’s pioneering technology and creativity allows our customers to ask for solutions that lie beyond what they previously thought was possible.

Magna Advanced Automation UK has established a manufacturing facility in Telford, UK, specialising in Automation (designing, building, commissioning, and installing assembly cells for both an internal and external customer base) and High-Pressure Die-Casting (HPDC) tooling.

We require a skilled CNC Programmer with extensive experience in using PowerMill software for programming complex machining operations. A self-driven and detail-oriented professional with a proven track record in maximising efficiency and precision in manufacturing processes. Typical activities will include press tool adaption, manufacture of new components and repairs to existing press and HPDC tooling.

Your Responsibilities

  1. Ability to utilise PowerMill software to create complex CNC programs for both 3-axis and 5-axis machining centers, ensuring high precision and efficiency.
  2. Independently programmed, set up, and operated CNC machines, consistently achieving high-quality output with minimal supervision.
  3. Developed and optimised CNC programs to reduce cycle times and improve tool life, resulting in increased productivity.
  4. Conducted simulations and tests to verify program accuracy, making necessary adjustments to achieve desired specifications.
  5. Collaborated with engineering and production teams to ensure seamless integration of CNC programs into the manufacturing process.
  6. Programming and operating of CNC Okuma, Elgamill, and DMG Doosan.
  7. Responsible for the 5 axis online and off line programming and operating.
  8. Operation of Fidia / Heidenhain / Fanuc control unit.
  9. Create components on engineering drawings.
  10. Efficiently utilise and operate the Delcam operating system.
  11. Download programmes to the control unit.
  12. Set up machine and select the right tools to run the programme for brand new parts.

Who we are looking for

  1. Previous experience gained in a similar role required, specifically on 5 axis machines.
  2. Proficient in PowerMill software for advanced CNC programming.
  3. Expert in programming for both 3-axis and 5-axis CNC machining.
  4. Excellent understanding of G-code and M-code programming.
  5. Familiarity with continuous improvement philosophy.
  6. Good understanding of and experience using 2D & 3D engineering drawings.
  7. Working technical knowledge of modern tool room processes and techniques, including CAD/CAM.
  8. Flexibility to travel within Europe and beyond.
  9. Ability to effectively communicate and build relationships.
  10. Effective communicator both written and verbal in English.
  11. Eligibility to work in the UK.
  12. Overhead crane experience preferred.
  13. Stamping tools, Casting tools, Injection moulding tools experience is desirable.

Your preferred qualifications

City and Guilds qualification and at least 5 years post apprenticeship experience in a machine shop.
