CNC Machinist / Programmer

We currently have a vacancy for an experienced CNC machinist to work at our site in Great Baddow, Chelmsford.

As a CNC machinist within our manufacturing centre, you will be instrumental in assisting with the delivery of innovative research projects to quality, time and budget. Liaising with engineering and technical staff within the BAE Systems’ Digital Intelligence Laboratories (DI Labs), this role will provide you with the chance to become involved in challenging activities within a friendly and dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities as a CNC Machinist will involve:

  1. Manufacturing small batch / prototype and production components ranging from highly accurate aerospace components through to lab use demonstrator items within time and budget.
  2. Programming, setting and running 3 axis CNC milling machines using CADCAM software and also via the machine control.
  3. Demonstrating the desire to advance to 5 axis programming and setting in the future.
  4. Operating manual milling machines and lathes.
  5. Working on your own initiative and demonstrating a flexible working attitude.
  6. Ensuring that all manufacturing activities are undertaken in line with AI Labs process and SHE requirements.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  1. Experienced CNC milling machinist
  2. 3D CADCAM programming experience
  3. Able to programme, set and operate different machine tools, as well as operate manual milling machines and lathes
  4. Qualified to NVQ Level 3 Engineering (or equivalent) or higher
  5. Apprentice trained
Desirable Skills
  1. Experience of working closely with designers and engineers to assist with the DFM attributes of new hardware design.
  2. Experience of aerospace component manufacture, first article inspection reports etc.

You will have strong problem-solving skills and excellent communication skills to effectively articulate technical information to a variety of engineers and customers. You will be expected to gain security clearance for this role.
