Job description

This position is located in Scarborough. In addition to annual initiatives, the key accountabilities of this position are:

1. Responsible for setup and operation of CNC Lathe and Mill machinery.
2. Machine product to specified requirements as defined on Job Travelers, Drawings, and Sketches.
3. Must be able to read blueprints and various symbols regarding tolerances, surface finishes, etc.
4. Pre-inspection of parts to ensure product compliance is achievable prior to metal removal process.
5. Verify tooling requirements are met in advance of the commencement of each job.
6. Escalate any issues/concerns to supervisor.
7. Machine product at optimal conditions to maintain cost effectiveness of machining process.
8. Ability to read and understand programs to a degree that will allow you to modify/edit to meet specified tolerances and surface finishes.
9. Enter codes specifying speeds, feed and cut of the tool path for CNC machine tools.
10. Maintain tooling in peak conditions.
11. Verify dimensions of parts machined using precision measuring instruments as required.
12. Practice excellent general housekeeping, including but not limited to, his/her work area, chip removal, floor areas, benches, storage areas to ensure a safe work environment.
13. Perform daily machine checks per preventative maintenance program and safety procedures.
14. Use of overhead crane to setup and move parts.

Requirements:

1. Minimum 5 years CNC machining experience, consisting of machine setup & operation.
2. General machinist certification an asset.
3. Challenged daily in working with large casings & fabricated components, where material variation and conditions require an analytical approach to machining of product.
4. Ability to read & interpret blueprints, drawings, charts & tables.
5. Motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
6. Strong analytical skills and keen attention to detail.
7. Previous experience working with overhead cranes an asset.
8. Creative problem-solving skills, conflict management within different organizations (centralized and matrix organizational structures).
9. Ability to break down complex problems in a simplified way, conduct root cause analysis and provide clear, well thought-out recommendations.
10. Strong, team-oriented leadership skills with presence and a bias for action.
11. Self-directed with ability to work autonomously and collaboratively and a focus on results.
12. Ability to communicate in an open and authentic manner in all situations.
