CNC 5 Axis Programmer

NexGen Consultancy are currently recruiting for a 5 Axis Programmer to join a well established CNC manufacturer located in High Wycombe.

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced 5-Axis Hypermill Programmer to join our team, specializing in programming and operating Mikron CNC milling machines. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and optimizing CNC programs for complex 5-axis machining operations using Hypermill CAM software. This role requires a high level of technical expertise in precision machining, knowledge of toolpaths, and experience working with tight tolerances in a fast-paced, high-quality manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Creation: Develop, test, and optimize CNC programs using Hypermill CAM software for 5-axis Mikron milling machines.
2. Toolpath Optimization: Generate efficient and accurate toolpaths to meet production requirements, ensuring high-quality surface finishes and dimensional accuracy.
3. Machine Setup & Operation: Set up Mikron 5-axis CNC milling machines, including tool selection, fixture setup, and initial job run-offs.
4. Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate machining processes to improve efficiency, reduce cycle time, and maintain quality standards.
5. Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, machinists, and quality control teams to ensure the successful production of complex parts.
6. Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve machining and programming issues to maintain uninterrupted production.
7. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of programs, setup sheets, tooling lists, and process improvements.
8. Quality Control: Ensure all machined components meet stringent quality and tolerance specifications, conducting in-process inspections when necessary.
9. Maintenance: Monitor the condition of machines and perform routine maintenance to minimize downtime.

Qualifications:

1. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in CNC programming with Hypermill CAM software, specifically for 5-axis operations.
2. Machine Knowledge: Hands-on experience with Mikron or similar 5-axis CNC machines.
3. Technical Skills:
   1. Proficient in Hypermill CAM software for 5-axis programming.
   2. Strong knowledge of G-code and machine setup.
   3. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, tolerancing, and blueprint reading.
4. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for CNC programming and machining issues.
5. Attention to Detail: Ability to work with tight tolerances and high-quality standards.
6. Communication: Excellent teamwork and communication skills for collaborating across departments.

Preferred Skills:

1. Experience with other CAM software or multi-axis CNC machines.
2. Familiarity with Siemens or Heidenhain CNC controls.
3. Knowledge of advanced machining techniques such as high-speed machining, 3+2 axis machining, and simultaneous 5-axis cutting.
