About the Role
As Advertising Manager, you will lead a sales team working across a single title and work with this team to deliver a sales strategy that maximises print and digital advertising revenues from the brand. You will have the opportunity to nurture and develop this team, and play an active role in supporting the senior management team and the wider business. This role will be mainly aligned to English Garden but may work on other titles from time to time.
Key Responsibilities

  • Coach and organise the Sales Executive(s) to successfully achieve group print and digital sales revenue targets on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Lead by example and achieve monthly and annual sales targets, including ownership of key client accounts.
  • Ensure your team is following sales best practices as instructed by the sales leadership team, including: call rates and meeting quotas, yield management, series selling, forward bookings, new business, CRM usage, competitor monitoring and lead chasing.
  • Participate actively in new digital sales initiatives and projects, and lead by example in the area of digital sales with your sales team.
  • Personally build strong relationships with key clients, agencies and strategic partners.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all departments at CMC to support an efficient publishing process. Engage with Publishers to deliver projects that achieve budget.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of your marketplace.
  • Provide your line manager with a weekly performance report for your title.
  • Establish a good working relationship with publishing and editorial colleagues, and collaborate to agree on commercially attractive features three issues in advance.
  • Take ownership of the production of media packs and other sales collateral that supports the sales effort.
  • Ensure the brand's client base is being managed by ensuring a fair and effective allocation of clients between team members.
  • Cross-sell your clients into other relevant magazines within the CMC portfolio and, where relevant, collaborate with colleagues in the wider TMG business on group pitches.
  • Meet the business objectives of your clients through the creation of bespoke advertising solutions.
  • Expand the brand footprints, for example through the launch of profitable brand extensions.

Essential Skills

  • Experience of working in a similar organisation, selling print and digital advertising to clients and agencies.
  • Strong client and agency relationships (contacts from the gardening sector would be a particular advantage), with plenty of face-to-face and presentation experience.
  • Outstanding organisational and time management skills, being able to work to tight deadlines and manage the closing of print issues effectively.
  • Experience managing a small team and leading them to achieve targets.
  • Experience in pitching and winning business across multiple platforms.
  • An understanding of the role and value of digital in the media mix, particularly digital creative solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A positive, can-do collaborative approach, and the ability to work effectively with colleagues from outside the sales team (editorial, publishing, digital product etc.).
