We are looking for an experienced Cloud FinOps Consultant to closely monitor, control and manage cloud spend and introduce enterprise-level standards around cloud cost management.

You will also lead the development and maturity of reporting and dashboarding to further enhance the insights to key stakeholders in business-critical programmes and projects.

You will deliver detailed data analysis of Cloud consumption across all Cloud venues and all Cloud hosted technologies including identifying consumption trends and optimisation opportunities.

Who you'll work with

At DLG (Direct Line Group) we are delivering a set of plans to transform our technology for the future, evolving the systems, platforms and infrastructure that our people use day-to-day. You will join our wider 'Group Core Technology and Operations' department whose mission is to serve customers by managing Technology for stability, performance, and value.

Within this, you'll be part of the Cloud Infrastructure Services Team, which comprises multiple SMEs for different technology disciplines. You will report to our Cloud Governance Lead.

What you will do

  1. Provide FinOps consultancy into key programmes and projects to ensure cost-efficient workloads.
  2. Identify and address resource inefficiencies, including consolidation and duplication removal.
  3. Drive and mature Cloud Cost Optimization initiatives to maximize business value.
  4. Develop a mature Cloud budgeting model and reporting of actual cost vs budget.
  5. Create and track KPIs for Cloud FinOps effectiveness and implement improvements.
  6. Design and implement enterprise-level processes and standards based on FinOps best practices.
  7. Transform through automation the existing manual FinOps processes and tasks.
  8. Develop and lead the sustainability metrics and reporting on carbon emissions within the cloud.
  9. Deliver matured customised insights to internal stakeholders to provide a view of actual costs vs budget.
  10. Identify Cost Optimisation Opportunities as part of the FinOps team, including but not limited to Rightsizing, Reservations, Savings Plans, Wastage Removal, and technology upgrades.
  11. Provide detailed cost forecasting across the Cloud estate considering proposed/planned changes, new workloads planned to be cloud hosted in the future and comparing potential Cloud costs across AWS, Azure, OCI.
  12. Report on cost tagging compliance across all Cloud venues to internal stakeholders.
  13. Collaborate with the cloud engineering teams on the policies and guardrails to ensure the business is empowered to achieve its objectives with appropriate governance in place maintaining enterprise standards.
  14. Work with the Software Asset Management team to identify software renewals or new software procurement that could use a cloud-based Marketplace to achieve a lower price point for the business, assisting with the burn down of enterprise level spend commitments.

What we look for

  1. Direct experience of large-scale Cloud migrations and associated cost challenges.
  2. Deep level knowledge in Cloud economics, budgeting, forecasting and optimisation.
  3. Associate level technical knowledge of both AWS and Azure.
  4. Ability to influence decision-making through clear informed evidence-based data and build healthy trusted relationships.
  5. Expertise in communication of technical information in a clear and precise way to all levels of stakeholders both technical and nontechnical both verbally and via written documentation.
  6. Extensive experience of Cloud management tools including Cloudability, AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Cudos, Azure Cost Management and PowerBI.
  7. Data-driven with an analytical background.
