Job description

As part of the Northampton manufacturing team, this position is required to manually fit and stitch together the prepared workload to form the basis of a leather shoe upper.
To engage in a range of production activities working as a team and as an individual to aid in meeting the production objectives in terms of quality and quantity in an effective manner.

Nature and Scope of the Main Activities:
  1. Be fully competent in all aspects of stitching a shoe upper by using a sewing machine, including under edging, sides, caps, etc.
  2. Be fully competent/or a willingness to learn all aspects of fitting a shoe upper.
  3. Work as part of a team and on an individual basis working to obtain the daily/weekly targets ensuring quality is at the highest standard.
  4. Able to prioritise the work to meet production needs.
  5. Be prepared to flex daily workload if required to take account of exceptional events, such as urgent tickets, machine breakdowns, lack of materials, etc.
  6. Communicate to relevant Team Leader / Supervisor.
  7. Liaise with the Team Leader and/or Supervisor to address specific quality or production problems.
  8. Ensure departmental machinery and equipment is in good working order and any problems are reported to the Team Leader and/or Supervisor.
Person Specification:
  1. Previous experience in the shoe industry (or similar) in a stitching/machinist role is essential.
  2. Must be fully competent in using a sewing machine.
  3. Previous experience is advantageous.
  4. Exceptional attention to detail.
  5. Ability to train others once fully trained.
  6. Self-motivated.
  7. High standards of workmanship within own work.
  8. Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
  9. A responsible and conscientious attitude.
  10. Calmness under pressure.
  11. The ability to respect confidential company or personal information.
  12. Work abroad.
