Clinical Teaching Fellow in General Medicine
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts

This post is ideal for a doctor with MRCP seeking to establish a career in any of the medical specialties who is either between core medical and higher training and wants a career break, or a higher specialist trainee as an Out of Programme for Experience who has an interest in Medical Education.

Main duties of the job
  • To deliver ward based general medicine teaching on the FFP Junior Medicine Course (Year 3), AP1 Integrated Medicine (Year 4) and AP2 (Senior Medicine course Year 5), across both the City and QMC Campus.
  • To provide reasonable cover where appropriate for the other Clinical Teaching Fellows (and vice-versa).
  • Contribute to the revision and remediation courses.
  • Contribute to the clinical assessment in terms of DOPS and Min-Cex of students during the clinical course.
  • Contribute to Patient and Simulated Patient Workshops on the clinical course.
  • Contribute to Induction of FFP, AP1 and AP2 students.
  • To provide teaching on the Early Clinical Experience Course.
  • Contribute to the formal examination of these students including OSCE examinations and exam question writing. Take part in one-to-one tutoring of students re-sitting their exams and provide one-to-one teaching support for students as required.
  • Contribute in a strategic sense to the evolution of teaching for all the above groups.
  • Support teaching across the clinical course as required.
  • Working with the Undergraduate Manager and other Clinical Teaching Fellows to develop innovative teaching methods across the clinical course.
  • Undertake appropriate projects to support your own learning and improve the experience of the Department.

Job responsibilities

This is a 24-month teaching post. The aim of the post is to work alongside the other Clinical Teaching Fellows and the Undergraduate Education Manager (currently Nick Kythreotis) to both deliver teaching to medical students at NUH and to develop new initiatives when teaching students.

Training & Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent and GMC registered
  • MRCP Part 1
  • MRCP Part 2
Experience
  • 1-3 years' experience of acute and/or general medicine at a minimum CT/SHO level or equivalent.
  • Satisfactory completion of clinical training attachments both in central (Teaching) and peripheral (District General) acute hospitals in the UK
  • Must have at least 2 years of NHS experience in the UK
  • 1-2 years' experience in acute or specialist medicine at ST/SpR level.
Teaching
  • Evidence of interest in teaching and have some experience in undergraduate teaching. Enthusiastic and experienced in teaching clinical skills in the workplace or training environment
  • Teaching qualification or publication.
Research
  • Evidence of some previous Medicine research interest and publications
  • Participation in a clinically-based and/or educational research project with involvement at key stages (design, data collection, analysis, preparation of abstracts and final)
